- Information
On this day in 1926, the Ford Trimotor makes its first flight. Inspired by the Fokker F. VII and the principle of the use of corrugated sheet metal developed by junkers, the plane built by Ford inherits the characteristics of simplicity and robustness that have made the success of the cars. Its modularity (passengers and/or cargo) made it a commercial success until the next generation (DC-2, Boeing 247) made it obsolete. Over the nearly 200 units built, 8 Trimotor are still flying, proof of the quality of design.
