On this day in 1929, Major Carl Sptaaz and his crew landed their Atlantic-Fokker C-2A (Fokker V.II) similar to this one after having flown for nearly a week (150h40), out of Los Angeles, CA, setting a new endurance record (previously 60h). Spaatz took off on Jan 1st in the morning. A Douglas C-1 provided them air to air refueling 37 times during the period and resupplied them 6 times, of which 12 occurred in the night. All crew members received the Distinguished Flying Cross for their feat. Spaatz went on to became the first Chief of Staff of the US Air Force, and strongly advocated for the development of air to air refueling.
