On this day in 1962, McDonnell delivered their two first F-110A Spectre to the US Air Force. The official name was then changed to F-4C Phantom. Both aircraft were taken from US Navy inventory who had sponsored the development. It would be one the rare occasion where both branches would operate the same type of fighter. Phantom would serve in the USAF until recently.
