On this day in 1977, the Enterprise space shuttle orbiter (OV-101) performs its first captive flight, mounted on top of the Boeing 747 SCA (Shuttle Carrier Aircraft) NASA 905, specially modified to carry the Shuttle across the United States. The Shuttle had no crew for this first test. The following tests will consist of drops at altitude of the Shuttle in order to verify its handling qualities after reentry.
