On this day in 1929, The Boeing P-12 pursuit aircraft entered service in the US Army Air Corps. Originally developed for the US Navy under the name F4B, the Air Corps would finally order twice as much, for a total of nearly 600. It will be replaced less than 5 years later by the faster Boeing P-26 monoplane, even if both used the same P&W R-1340 engine block.
