On this day in 1969, a large crowd gathered around Toulouse airport to attend the first flight of the first supersonic airliner, Concorde. Test pilot Turcat, with engineer Guignard, Perrier, Retif, cranked up the 4 afterburners, another first for a future commercial aircraft. The flight lasted for 29 minutes. The British prototype would take-off from Filton a month later.
