On this day in 1936, Capt John Summers, test pilot at Vickers, lands the Spitfire prototype 'K5054' on Eastleigh airfield, near Southampton. After only 8 minutes flying the latest design of Reginald Mitchell, Summers would only say 'Don't touch anything'. More than 20000 Spitfire will be built over 10 years.
