On this day in 1969, the Dassault Mirage F1, aka 'the Dart', took off for the first time and exceeded directly Mach 1. Powered by a ATAR 9K50, 7t of thrust, this very sharp plane capable of Mach 2.2 would become over time a good fighter, a good recce platform and a good ground attack aircraft. More than 720 have been ordered by a dozen of countries.
