On this day in 1999, during the 3rd night of NATO air strikes over Serbia, an F-117A Nighthawk has been shot down by a SA-3 missile battery whose technology was dating back to the 60's. It was a slap in a face for the United States and their stealthy technology which was defeated for the first time in ten years of operations. Very fortunately, the pilot managed to hide in a drainage ditch after he ejected. A helicopter combat search & rescue operation would peak him up in the early morning.
