On this day in 1982, Airbus A310 wide-body airliner took off for the first time. Developed as a shortened version of the A300, it shared many components and its production line with its predecessor. Actually, commercial crews could fly both types with the same type rating, a design philosophy Airbus would foster over its next generation of aircraft. A multirole tanker version would be developed for German and Canadian Air Forces.
