- Information
On this day in 1965, the first Lockheed C-141 B Starlifter, 'Golden Bear', was delivered to the US Air Force at Travis AFB, propelling the military air transport service into the jet age. 285 Starlifters would be produced to replace Douglas's C-124 and C-131, which had now become dinosaurs with propellers. The C-141 would be employed until 2006 after the introduction of the C-17 Globemaster.
