- Information
On this day in 1939, the Fairchild PT-19 made its first flight. Under its 'comic-like' look for an airplane, the PT-19 differed at the time from other American trainer aircraft which were still all radial engines biplanes. With its cantilever monoplane wing, and its inline engine, the PT-19 was a modern and fast aircraft. Nearly 8000 were built, forming many American fighter pilots for the Second World War.
