On this day in 1974, after 29 years of active service, the US Navy retired its last Douglas C-54 Skymaster (DC-4), actually the one operated by the Navy Test Pilot School at Patuxent River. It had been flown for almost 15,000hr in which it covered more than 3 million miles.
