On this day in 1924, Carl Eielson flew the first airmail between Fairbanks and McGrath, Alaska, with an Airco DH.4 in just 3 hours. This trip was usually performed with dog-sleds and took up to 30 days. A year later, President Coolidge would sign the 'Kelly Act', the starting point of development of regular airmail for the US Post Office, and the DH.4 would become its workhorse
